In 1989, Premiere Magazine asked film critics Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert to name their top 10 movies of the 1980s.

The pair took their choices and tuned it into an episode of their syndicated show, Siskel & Ebert, giving us a unique look at the decade in film as they saw it, just as the era was ending. Gene Siskel was the movie critic for The Chicago Tribune from 1969 until his untimely death in 1999, and Roger Ebert was the movie critic for The Chicago Sun-Times from 1975 until his passing in 2013.

Beginning in 1977, the two starred in the PBS series Sneak Previews, which was later retitled At the Movies, and then Siskel & Ebert after it entered syndication.

Their "thumbs up" seal of approval for films became their calling card, and the pair became the most famous movie critics in America.
